Where Every Student Gets the Right Assist
Just like an alley-oop in basketball, success comes from the right setup. We provide the assist so your child can build confidence, master skills, and finish strong in school and beyond.
At Alley-Oop Learning Center, we set students up for success by building strong foundations early, instilling confidence, and developing a mindset for growth. Through personalized tutoring in a warm, motivating environment, every student gets the guidance and support they need to rise higher.

Our Story
At Alley-Oop Learning Center, we believe every student can thrive when given the right support and encouragement. Founded by educator Ivan Lo, ALC combines data-driven instruction with personal mentorship to help students build skills, confidence, and a mindset for lifelong success.
Why I Started ALC
I launched Alley-Oop Learning Center in September 2021, just after leaving my role teaching 5th grade in Seattle Public Schools. Each year, students entered my class well below district standards. I tried everything I could inside the school day—and far beyond it. I offered before-school help, lunch tutoring, after-school mentoring, and taught during summers. Our class always made tremendous growth, but there were still a few students who, by June, weren’t ready for the next grade. That never sat right with me.
ALC is built for those students—and for any child who needs time, consistency, and truly individualized instruction to catch up and take off. We focus on early foundations (especially elementary and middle school), reserved weekly sessions (program, not drop-in), and teaching the why & how so students can think for themselves. We partner closely with families, track progress, and mentor kids so growth sticks.
I’m profoundly grateful for the relationships and trust formed over the years. Many families stayed with me, then sent their friends’ and family’s kids. Those referrals—and your belief in the work—have helped ALC grow and have shaped me into the educator I am today. Thank you for trusting me with your children.
How It Works
At Alley-Oop Learning Center, our process is designed to meet each student where they are — and help them grow from there. We offer flexible scheduling with sessions ranging from 1 to 4+ hours, up to 4 times per week, so families can choose the level of support that fits their needs. Here’s what the journey looks like:

Step 1: Initial Assessment
We begin with a free, personalized assessment in math and language arts to understand each student’s current skills, strengths, and areas for growth.

Step 4: Engaging Instruction
Students receive personalized guidance, encouragement, and interactive lessons that keep them engaged and on track. Homework help and test prep are available as needed.

Step 2: Personalized Action Plan
Based on assessment results, we create a tailored plan with specific goals, priority skills, and strategies that match the student’s learning style.

Step 5: Progress Monitoring
We regularly track each student’s growth using our in-house tracking system and share updates with families, making adjustments to keep them on the path to success.

Step 3: Flexible Scheduling
Families can schedule 1 to 4+ hour sessions, up to 4 times a week. When enrolling, families choose between Small Group Tutoring or 1-on-1 Tutoring to fit their child’s needs and their busy schedule.

Step 6: Encouragement & Growth
We celebrate milestones, boost confidence, and help students build a mindset for success so they leave each session feeling supported and motivated.
Programs & Services
Personalized learning, proven results — for students of all ages and levels.

Both options include all the benefits of our proven process — from engaging instruction and homework help to progress tracking and confidence building.
While our tutoring programs cover a wide range of academic and enrichment services, our most popular and recommended option is Small Group Tutoring — combining individualized instruction with the benefits of a collaborative, social learning environment.
